64 - Christmas decorations are still around

Last year, it took the Hong Kong government around a month or so to completely remove all the decorations from shopping malls, big open areas, the park, restaurants and the sides of skyscrapers, and I. know. they only did it to make space for the Chinese New Year decorations.

I hate seeing Christmas decorations when Christmas has already passed. There's an apartment building I pass by everyday on my way to and from school and hanging out one of the balconies is a Santa doll. It looks like Santa is climbing up the balcony, and I admit it looks sort of cute, but the thing is: it's hanging there all year round.

My family asked if I would put away the tree. That's not very fair, seeing as I didn't 'use' the tree, or appreciate it in the slightest. I find the whole decorate-the-tree thing so darn stupid. I hate the way it sheds little dark green pieces everywhere onto the floor and again, I hate the darn music that's emitted from those lights. I think it's such a hassle too, to bring the fake tree out of the box, put it up, decorate it, only to take off all the decorations, dismantle it and put it back in the box.

It's not my fault you put it up. You put it away yourself.

And put it away yourself NOW because it isn't Christmas anymore!

Ah yes, the post-Christmas letdown. We still have political advertisements up from the elections in November. My vote is for removing all of those before the Christmas decorations come down (or, better yet, before the Christmas decorations go up!).

I love this. I feel the same way about decorating the Christmas tree. My mom does both the assembling and disassembling. I must admit though, it's fun to turn on the tree when no other lights are on. It gives a subtle light to the room if I don't want the brightness of the regular lights. Bascially, I use the tree as a dull lamp. End of story.

I love how you tied the blog together at the end, by the way. Great stuff.

I know exactly what you mean! I work in a pretty big mall and while my store changed the music and erased all the Christmas music from their soundtrack the day after Christmas, the mall is still playing "Santa Baby." It's so annoying!

We took down all of our Christmas decorations within two days.

Douglas: Yes, it's like providing a clean slate, for people to prepare for the next big thing.

Phil: I'm a hermit that stays in my room for most of the holiday. I used to have a small Christmas tree that would fit on my desk. It was quite cute. I liked that tree, not too big, not much of a hassle. But again, it kept shedding those little green pieces and that irritated me.

Randa: While I was on holiday, the hotels were still playing Christmas music. You'd think that big places like hotels and malls would cut the Christmas stuff promptly.

Mom insisted on putting a wooden cutout tree on my table. It lights up...IF you plug it in (which I never did).

Man we have some in Texas that leave lights up, Christmas lights, all year! And Wal-Mart is probably already putting out Christmas things for next year!
Be sure to visit tomorrow and play the Robot Nine Picture Puzzle.

I get sick of Christmas music before it is even close to Christmas! The displays are up in the store right after Halloween. That's waaaaaay too soon. And the piped in holiday music? Seriously, it's stale and irritating by the actual holiday is was all intended for, so no wonder Scrooge and the Grinch are so popular. Everyone can relate!

What a strange concept that the government puts up/takes down the Christmas decor. Culture shock.

teacherwriter: You and me, both, you and me... And wow, before Halloween? That is a little extreme.

Cat: It's more like the government ordering skyscrapers to remove the light displays on their walls, ordering the transportation department to remove the decor from the streets, and the department of commerce to remove them from all business buildings and shopping malls.

I was at the mall just the other day, January 2nd I think it was, and as I sat in the food court eating my orange chicken I heard a familiar Christmas song playing out of the speakers. And that's when I asked, what the hell?!

Sigh. It's pretty stupid, isn't it?

Orange chicken is yum...
