105 - Breaking a promise

When someone says they're going to do something, they should do it, and do it with good and full intention. It irks me whenever people promise to do things for other people and then don't follow through.

I can understand when something important or out of their control keeps them from doing it but to just break the promise for no good reason is uncalled for. Especially when you are depending on them and there is no other way to get the task done.

I don't understand why people make promises and break them. They can't be trusted again. You can't put confidence in them. If someone isn't sure they mean a promise, they have no right to make it.

Some people just have no sense of responsibility.

But who am I to talk?

I rarely promise anything, just in case I can't live it up to it. Better to disappoint in advance than to create the fear of unfulfilled obligations

That's why I always end my statements of help with "but don't hold me to it. I'm not promising anything" if I'm not one hundred percent.

But I understand completely!

I'm with you there!
Loyalty and trust are the things I value most in a person, and if they break that it is really hard to gain that trust back and forgive them...
There is rarely any excuse to break a promise.

I agree with you 100% Nothing worse than putting your faith in someone and then to be let down again and again.
Great blog btw

do you break promises?

that's why I hardly ever make promises, unless I'm completely sure I can and will keep them.

i hardly make promises because i don't want to disappoint people.

i guess making promises is a disease that almost everyone has.

i never treat promises lightly.. if i promise something I have the full intention of doing it!

Maybe I am naive in the way that i expect everyone to do the same...

Madame DeFarge: I guess that's a good idea. I think it's necessary to make some promises, especially when you're close with someone, who you depend on.

Randa: That's sort of annoying. :) I mean, you're not even saying 'yes' or 'no'. Indecisiveness irks me.

Liz Sedai: The value I look for is care. Loyalty and trust sort of tie in with it.

Laughing Soul: Hi, welcome, welcome. Thanks.

Vivienne: I do, but not with my friends. I break promises most with my mother.

Chricel: Making or breaking them?

Faker: Yes, good perspective. Me too.
