84 - Folding the corners of pages

Damn, school is killing me. It's 7:07am and I'm just about to rush off to another day of tiresome school. I forgot to do yesterday's post, so I just looked around and there was my copy of Dickens' Great Expectations with the corner of the front cover peeling off, reminding me of the countless times I've seen people who fold the corners of pages to mark where they stopped reading a book. I used to use bookmarks, or simply remember the page I was at, but now I simply don't have the time to read.

I didn't like it whenever my mother and I would share books because often she would fold the corners and I was awfully distracted every time I noticed the corner was folded. It has bugged me quite a lot on several occasions and I have been angry enough to declare to my mother that we would never share books again.

I have to go print off around ten essays now... Talk to you all later...

(By the way, I had to change the toilet roll for the fifth time this year. But I didn't have to do it for about a week so my family's off the hook.)

My name is Anita and I am a page folder. *So ashamed*

I hate folded book pages! When I'm reading, and don't have a bookmark handy, I'll take a scrap of paper and mark my place. I've even spent minutes looking for a scrap because I'm so anal about it.

Books are our friends. My mother and father were avid readers and always taught us to use a bookmark and to never dog ear the pages.

Dog ear is the term used when you fold over the corner. It looks like a cute puppy's ear.

Dog ears are cute on puppies but mutilate my book and I'll kick your ass.

you would hate to read my books so! i dog ear a page when i have read a passage that has moved me, so i can always go back to it.

I never dog ear a page. These days, I mostly use a bookmark (an old theater ticket, a business card, slip the book jacket into the place) or I just remember the page number. At one time, all I did was remember the page number I was on. But I am getting older now and it takes me a little more to retrieve that info so I use bookmarks more.

I hate dog-ears on books. Dog ears should stay on dogs and not books.

Folded corners on books make the book looked loved and read. It makes it look like someone cares.

But I have a strict rule about that. I am never the one to do the dog-earing. And I only like to see the folded corners on books from the library.

MY books, however, have pages that are the same as when I bought them. Corners flat and uncreased. Somebody go thank the person who invented bookmarks.

I hate that too. It makes the book look funny. I hate it especially when I lend books and people do it to MY books.

Didn't you bring up the toilet roll conversation at the dinner table?

when it comes to MY BOOKS - i am a lil "OC".

i cherish my books. And there's no way i'm gonna let it pass when some bloody soul fold even a single page of any of them.

okay, while I freak out if someone throws a book or otherwise mistreats it, I always dog ear pages. I just do. I always lose bookmarks. But then I do hate it when the crease stays...
Sigh.

I used to do this but stopped. I'm a recovering "page corner folder."

I eventually succumb to folding pages but I really hate when I have a brand new book and I have no other choice but to either fold the spine back or dog-ear a page, because I just end up losing all hope and ruining it.

Anita: If you're ashamed, it means you hate it too, :D

J.J.: I have good memory so I usually just remember it. I like that you're anal. Anal people rule.

Chris O: I read your comment in the school library and your last line made me laugh out loud. People stared at me...

Yolanda: For big projects, I stick a bunch of post-its in books if I need to make notes and refer to them later. It's about as annoying, to be honest, but I still do it.

Douglas: I'm all about presentation. My bookmarks are clean, rectangular, laminated photos of me when I was a young boy. Oh, no. That's my mother, not me.

Everyday Housewife: I agree.

Kate: I like keeping the book's appearance as good as new too. I once heard from somewhere that the more yellow the pages of a dictionary were, the more it was cared for and used. I say, what a load of crap. One that's cared for would be clean.

Vivienne: I didn't, it was a long time since I had to do it.

hrix: I have the same sentimentality when it comes to any of my property.

Larissa: How about when you're erasing something, then you erase it with excessive force and the paper creases? Paper is meant to be flat, creases are evil.

Marcy: Cheers!

Hail To The Thief: Get a bookmark. :)
